six sites every new mom should know about

Well, here we are, 10 p.m. and I am just sitting down to write a blog post that I wanted to get to hours ago. But the evening after work involved dealing with some unwelcome home invadors also known as ants (not fun), celebrating my dad’s birthday (a lot of fun!), and installing a new car seat (beyond not fun). Normally I would say Chris and I are better together but in some things, such as car seat installation, we are……not.

aaaannnddd that was as far as I got on this post before I crashed, two days ago. What a week!

Anywho I feel like I have a lot of friends who are either pregnant or just had babies and I thought I would share some of the sites/blogs I turned to most when I either had questions or just needed some solace during those hard newborn days.

Momastery Momastery is a blog started by Glennon Doyle Melton, who is now a bestselling author, award-winning blogger and motivational speaker. Check out the “About G” page to learn her backstory. Her posts are humorous yet deep; raw and inspirational. I also read her book, Carry On Warrior, which is a quick but funny, emotional and warm read.

Scary Mommy – This site is a compilation of many writers/bloggers. Just about every thought you’ve ever had about parenting has a blog post dedicated to it on this site. Some articles can be a bit fowl so fair warning.

Kelly Mom – Nursing mamas, you need this site in your life. Like, yesterday. The answers to all your breastfeeding questions are here! Can you have that glass of wine you’ve waited nine months for? What if you need to find out if the antibiotic eye drops you have to take are safe? (yes, that happened to me) Everything you need to know to navigate the world of being another human being’s sole source of food can be found through this site.

Baby Center – I can’t tell you how many times I went to the Baby Center site for answers about one thing or another. After a few late night phone calls to the pediatrician I learned that mayyybee I should look whatever weird question I have up online before pressing the panic button. The site has expert advice and community sections so whether you are looking for answers or just solace this site is a good bet.

And last but certainly not least, I think it’s critical to find a favorite parenting blog or 10 to browse during those 3 a.m. zombie rocking sessions when you are somehow having the best and worst moment of your life at the same time. Finding a blog where a mom just gets it, and shares it, the real deal, the good, the bad, the ugly, the things you thought for sure you were the only mom to ever not figure out…okay I think you get my drift. Camp Patton and Story of this Life were and still are some of my favorites so obviously I recommend checking them out. But, there are so many more out there so no matter what your sense of humor, parenting style or general life philosophy, I’m sure there is a parenting blog for you!

So, now that I’ve shared a bunch of blogs/sites for you to read, I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you the secret to keeping up-to-date with all of them. I use Bloglovin‘ to read all of my blogs and the name does itself credit because I love me some Bloglovin’. I get an email every day with the newest posts from blogs I follow. P.S. – If you decide to sign up for Bloglovin’, you can also follow this blog through there too! Oooooo

Which blogs or sites am I missing? I know there are thousands out there and all offer their own unique stamp in the parent-sphere. I follow many more a-parenting blog that I will share at some time, but once again, it’s late, I’m exhausted, so stick a fork in it, because I am D-O-N-E.
