Hellooooo, it’s been a while.
I’m finally taking a break to write a blog post! It’s been more than a month since my last one but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy. So, here is a random recap of our life lately, naturally centered around AJ.
We made the big switch from crib to “big-girl bed” and it went much smoother than anticipated. Although AJ never tried to climb out of her crib, it just wasn’t working for her anymore, to put it politely. So we switched her to a big girl bed with the mindset that it may help with the nightly dramatics. And it has…somewhat. I’ve heard two-year sleep regression is a thing so I’m just going to be optimistic and say, yeah, that’s what’s going on.
Speaking of two, AJ’s birthday is about three weeks away. We have a small celebration planned and I’m sure I will be holding back tears. I guess I can’t call myself a new mom anymore?
The list of approved foods on AJ’s list is down to yogurt, cheese, milk and fruit. And ice cream of course. Miss Dairy Queen herself. No real meals necessary, mom. I took the time to make homemade macaroni and cheese last week (recipe c/o Chrissy Teigen’s Cravings) to which AJ took one bite and promptly spit it out with a “I don’t like it, mama. Yucky.” Thank you for that constructive feedback, daughter.
AJ recently got to experience the classic childhood right of passage of…getting tubes in her ears. I was nervous, of course, but the doctors, nurses and everyone else at the hospital were wonderful. We were home by 8:30 a.m. and AJ was bouncy as could be. Since I took off work for the day we ended up having a fun little mother-daughter day.
Our good friends recently had their second child and we got to meet him this weekend. I was interested to see how AJ reacted to a newborn baby and to me holding said newborn. She ended up obsessed with the little one and wanted to “hold” him herself, and then didn’t want to give him up. Me neither, little A. It’s amazing how quickly one forgets the smallness and cuddliness of newborns!
I know I sound like a broken record but AJ truly changes every day, especially with the things she says. Some of her current often-said phrases include, “GO WAY” (go away…when she’s mad at us), “Wuv oo mama/daddy” (when she’s not mad at us), and “We get in car and go to Tahget now?” (Target. I’m slightly ashamed of this one. Just slightly.)
Happy July everyone!
