Welcome to Slightly North of Southern!

I’m Kelly, a former 20-something living in Wild and Wonderful West Virginia with my husband, Chris, daughter, AJ, new son baby L, and our cat, Petra.

I’m a passionate reader and writer. Becoming a mother changed my life in ways I never knew it could and I love it more than I could ever put into words. I’m a self-diagnosed Anglophile and will not seek treatment. Ninety-nine percent of the books I read are non-fiction historical or historical fiction. I’m also a fan of NPR, online shopping, cupcakes, running short distances and sundresses.

Chris lives with all females and masters it gracefully. He works full time. He is an avid sports fan and has been known to throw shoes when his favorite teams perform poorly. He will get up in the middle of the night to change a diaper or get his wife a snack without asking for thanks or recognition. He claims he has not had his choice of restaurant or movie since 2006 but we all know he’s exaggerating.

AJ is almost three and the happiest person we’ve ever met. Her hair will not be tamed. She’s an avid playground enthusiast. She is happiest reenacting any Disney princess movie, whether it is with her dolls or dressed in full princess regalia. She makes a friend anywhere she goes. She loves baby dolls, the Mountaineers, and condiments.

Petra is the Queen of the family, constantly finding new and creative ways to get us to submit to her demands.

You could say we live in the southern-most part of the north, or the northern-most part of the south…I like to say we are slightly north of southern.
